Version Info Comparison

Windows program files carry an embedded version resource describing the product they belong to. When two such files are compared, Diffoniq does not show their raw binary contents — instead it extracts and compares the version information side by side:

The content checksum is the same value used by the background content comparison in the directory view. It guarantees that two builds which happen to carry identical version resources are still shown as different when their file contents differ.

File Types

The version info view is used for the following file types, provided the file actually contains a version resource:

.exe .dll .ocx .cpl .scr .sys .drv .ax .acm .ime .mui .efi .fon .ttf .ttc .vxd

A file with one of these extensions but without a version resource is compared like any other file (as text or binary content).
